Our story began with a simple desire.

What started initially as a small act of compassion by a group of university students, has grown into a movement of volunteers and partners who share a common belief that every child deserves to be seen, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

While studying as an undergraduate medical student, our Founder felt a deep burden for children, especially those growing up without the care, life stability, and opportunities that every child deserves. At the time, there was no grand plan. The idea had no funding and no organizational structure. She simply wanted to spend a day at an orphanage during Christmas to share love and kindness with children. She shared the idea with a few friends. Some immediately showed excitement to contribute to the welfare of the children, while others expressed skepticism. Despite the uncertainty, everyone decided to do what they could. With each little donation, volunteer support, and gift packs, the first outreach happened.

That moment marked the beginning of something beautiful: Make a Child Smile Initiative.

People believed in the vision. Friends volunteered their skills. Family members contributed what they could. Colleagues gave financially, even when the amounts were small. What started as a single outreach soon became a consistent mission. Year after year, the outreach continued. Each December became more than just a visit. It became a tradition of sharing hope, joy, and love with children in orphanages across Ibadan. What began as a one-time outreach has now grown into a decade-long journey of impact, touching the lives of countless children.

The organization was formally registered as a non-profit organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria on the 4th of March 2024, and this marked an important step toward expanding our reach and increasing our impact. Today, Make a Child Smile Initiative continues to grow with a bigger vision, not only to provide joy to children today but also to invest in their future through education and long-term support.
